Doceo

iBeacon powered experience for the Courtauld

01. The Brief

A social internet of things for museums.

As our own internal R&D project, we discovered that most visitors to museums only experience less than 30% of all available content. Conversely, these institutions all admit they could better monetise each visit as well as customise tours if they knew more about their visitors’ preferences.

02. My Role

I designed Doceo (do-ch-eo) as a social Internet of Things for venues and large scale events. By anticipating the user’s interests, Doceo delivered curated content via smartphones, thereby enabling museums and other destinations to better understand and monetise their visitors.

In order to bring all of the above to fruition, a native application for iOS and Android was designed. The app also included dashboards for museum administrators, as well as a platform for beacon infrastructure management.

03. Where I Left Off

We piloted the app for an exhibition at the Courtauld in March 2016 in order to get some valuable feedback from the visitors and curators. After iterating the product around the new insights, the technology was subsequently distributed to other organisations such as Ogilvy & Mather and Wikipedia.
